Biography:

The longest-serving member of the Communications and Marketing staff, Michael Martin joined the ASU team in 1977. In his 30-plus years with the university, Martin has guided ASU publications from pen and ink and paste-ups into the digital age.

His work includes the ASU ram’s horn logo which was the overwhelming first choice of ASU students, faculty, staff and alumni when a new university logo was being adopted in conjunction with ASU’s new affiliation with the Texas Tech University System. His work is seen everywhere from ASU’s recruiting publications to the university police cars to the banners lining the Mall to the basketball court in Stephens Arena.

Martin is the graphics director for the Angelo State University Magazine. He is the only two-time recipient of the university’s Staff Excellence Award.

A member of the University and College Designers Association, the American Advertising Federation-San Angelo and the National Association of PhotoShop Professionals, Martin’s efforts have earned numerous awards on the local, regional and national levels.

A native of Amarillo, Martin earned his art and advertising degree from Texas State Technical Institute under the mentorship of Bob Bayle and Lloyd Cook.

Away from the office, Martin enjoys painting, biking and, when he can find the time, backpacking. He and his wife, Hildy, share their home with an assortment of cats and two large dogs.
