Most Europe - Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, Poland, England, and France
The 2019 Most Europe International Studies Program to Rome, Venice, Florence, and Pisa (Italy), The Vatican, Athens, Thessaloniki, and Chalkidiki, and the island of Rhodes (Greece), Madrid and Toledo (Spain), Paris (France), Berlin (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal), Krakow and Warsaw (Poland) and London (U.K.) to be conducted May 12 - June 10, 2019, will provide approximately 30 students (25 undergraduate and 5 graduate) a unique opportunity to study international marketing and logistics issues, focusing on relevant ways of doing business in these eight European Union countries.
Today, these seven of these eight countries are members of the European Union. Rome, Venice , Florence and Pisa (Italy), The Vatican, Athens, Thessaloniki, Chalkidiki, and the island of Rhodes (Greece), Paris (France), Madrid and Toledo (Spain), Sofia (Bulgaria) Berlin, (Germany), Krakow and Warsaw (Poland), and Lisbon (Portugal) and London, are truly fascinating cities, hosting numerous multinational corporations and other international organizations . They are cities blending modern life styles with history and cultures with rich traditions.
Two organized undergraduate courses and one organized graduate courses will comprise the program, and the requirements of each course will be similar to on-campus courses. Textbooks and other source materials will be used, and presentations of material and research papers will be required. While in Europe, students will be exposed to an average of twelve and a half hours per week to educational activities, events and course-related materials in each course under the direction of ASU faculty members.
Each undergraduate student will be required to register for two courses taught by the faculty. Excursions to locations of major importance in relation to the classes will also be offered. Such excursions will include trips to major business and government institutions in Madrid, Rome, Venice, Florence, Athens, Thessaloniki, Paris, and London, a cruise in the Aegean Sea to visit the cultural and historical sites on Mount Athos (The Holly Mount) peninsula, and other educational trips.
MGMT 3381 Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Global logistics and supply chain management are the mechanisms and systems by which the right products reach the right customers at the right time and at a cost that makes them competitive . In a global economy the successful management of logistics and supply chain management is critical to the success of the firm and its supply chain partners. These are likewise critical to a nation’s economy. The course covers the movement and storage management activities for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory. This course should satisfy the requirement of an advanced international business class or an advanced elective in marketing. Professor: Dr. Tom Badgett
MGMT 3381 International Comparative Marketing. A comparative study of marketing practices around the world. Special focus will be given on analyzing the influence of government institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities on the ways of doing business in the seven different member countries of the European Union. This course should satisfy the requirement of an advanced international business class or an advanced elective in marketing or management. Instructor: Gayle Randall
MGMT 6381 Designing and Managing. Transportation and logistics are vital to the EU economy. Europeans and the products they consume in ever increasing quantity and variety are carried across the continent by all modes of transport - but most of all by road. As the economy grows, so does the demand for transport and energy. Railways and inland waterways (i.e. rivers and canals), once so important for moving goods and passengers around Europe, now carry only a small percentage of the total. Three quarters of the EU’s freight now goes by road. To ease congestion on the roads and improve the environment, the EU is encouraging people to travel by public transport and urging transport firms to move freight to trains, barges and ships. The topics and activities outlined below are designed to give graduate students in business an overview of the many challenges policy makers in business face in designing and managing the complex supply chains in the EU. This course should satisfy the requirement of an advanced graduate elective in business. Alternatively, the student’s graduate advisor may determine that the course satisfies the requirement for the marketing requirement in the MBA program. Professor: Dr. Tom Badgett
Students will be extensively briefed prior to departure regarding travel arrangements and travel schedules with addresses and telephone numbers of all planned destinations will given to each participant. All travel arrangements will be made by the program directors and approved by the University. All program participants must have adequate health and accident insurance coverage in case of medical issues or emergencies. Students will be required to obtain health insurance that will provide medical and related benefits.
The program is open to 30 students in good standing who are in academic programs for which the classes offered are appropriate. Student participants normally will be full-time undergraduate and part-time graduate students. The selection of students to participate in the program will be the responsibility of the faculty directors and will be based on a number of criteria, including: the student’s classification, academic program, GPA, and ability to relate cooperatively with all group members. Students must satisfy the faculty directors that they are committed to the educational objectives of the program in order to be selected.
Participants in the program are subject to and are required to abide by all policies and provisions in the 2017-2018 University Bulletin, including the Student Life Regulations and Policies. Participants are also responsible for obeying the local and national laws of the country in which they are studying, as well as for conducting themselves in a manner consistent with local customs.
The basic cost of the program will be about $6,900.00 which will cover round-trip transatlantic airfare, travel within Europe, educational local trips, health insurance and visits to historic sites and museums, accommodations in Europe, hotel transfers, daily full European breakfast, and five program dinners. Students selected for the program will be eligible for financial support that will be used to defray program costs. Discretional transportation for personal reasons in the program cities and extra meal expenses will be the responsibility of the student.
