Interview with Garlend Armstrong

In this interview, Garlend Armstrong, a World War II veteran, recounts his experiences in the Pacific Theater. He guided landing craft and was involved in troop transport and rescue operations. He entered the service in 1944 and left in 1946.

    Garlend Armstrong was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, but grew up around Little Field, Texas. His family bought a ranch in Granbury, Texas around the time he started 1st grade. He lived the rest of his school years in the Granbury area and was part of a program focused on increasing patriotism within in his high school. Armstrong volunteered for the Navy and was sent to boot camp after his graduation. He was stationed in the Pacific once he’d completed his training.
