Case management services are available for students who need assistance connecting to campus or community resources for such reasons as facing food or housing insecurity, academic assistance, or financial difficulties.
Counseling Services provides consultation to faculty, staff, students, and parents. Reasons for consultation may vary but may include: concern about an ASU community member or guidance on how to handle a specific situation.
Couples/Family/Relationship counseling is offered to students with relational stress as long as one of the parties is a currently enrolled student with a paid medical services fee. If the member(s) of a couple/family/relationship is not the enrolled student and needs individual counseling, their counselor will refer them to the community.
Counseling Services has six creativity stations that are available from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday. The room allows students the opportunity to engage their creative side by painting, coloring or drawing.
You can book a Creativity Station online for up to an hour at a time. To see what the Creativity Center looks like, please check out this short video.
ASU ID is required during your visit.
If you are having a mental health crisis during business hours please come to Counseling Services for a walk-in appointment from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. In situations of imminent harm to self or others, clients may be referred for inpatient hospitalization to stabilize the crisis.
All ASU campus community members can utilize the ASU Crisis Helpline at any time at 325-486-6345, or call Campus Police at 325-942-2071.
Group Counseling allows participants to learn skills and process stressors with a counselor and their peers usually around a specific issue or topic. If a member of the ASU community has an idea for a therapy or support group, please let us know at counselingservices@angelo.edu.
Students with a paid medical services fee are eligible to work with a counselor on an individual level and create a treatment plan to meet therapeutic goals. There are no session limits for individual counseling, however, based on demand for the service, students are typically able to be scheduled every 10-14 days. If there is a lack of connection with a counselor, a client may request to see a different therapist in the Center or request a referral for a community counselor.
Students in individual counseling may also utilize relationship/family and group counseling as a supplemental resource based on availability.
Counseling Services has two quiet and peaceful stations where students may utilize Light Therapy while studying from 9:00am to Noon, Monday – Friday. Light therapy may be a beneficial supplemental treatment for individuals with nonseasonal depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, ADHD, and Parkinson’s disease. Individuals who use light therapy have reported improvement in their overall mood, sleep habits, along with an increase in productivity, and less fatigue. Light therapy use is recommended for 20 minutes at a time and requires a signed consent form.
