Arnold Air Society Projects and Activities

Veterans Vigil

The Veterans Vigil is an annual service project the Arnold Air Society (AAS) hosts at the Memorial Oak Grove on campus to honor the fallen students who fought in WWII. The event draws speakers, community members, family members and friends of the fallen. Throughout the ceremony, poems and personal letters from the fallen are read aloud at intervals while cadets guard the site, similar to how the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is guarded.

Operation Captain Planet

Operation Captain Planet was a service project that AAS hosted in the fall of 2009 to encourage the campus and the community to be “green” about using energy. AAS cadets distributed fliers to inform people on campus how to be more energy efficient (i.e., turning off lights, recycling, using energy efficient washers and dryers) and painted their thumbs green to help bring attention to the green movement. In less than a week, cadets informed about 200 people and colored more than 400 thumbs.
