Department of Kinesiology
Kinesiology is the study of human movement and physical activity. It is a broad and developing discipline, and our department offers several degree programs to fit your specific interests.
Here, you will gain the real-world knowledge and skills you need to succeed in a wide range of career fields within the athletics, health, fitness and recreation industries.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Exercise Science
This degree will prepare you for careers in clinical and commercial exercise settings. Once you graduate, you will be eligible to test for certifications offered through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association NSCA).
Kinesiology students interested in advancing to graduate studies in physical or occupational therapy are encouraged to choose this degree option.
B.S. in Exercise Science with Athletic Training Specialization
This degree provides the academic and clinical education requirements you need to be eligible for state licensure by the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers for the Texas Department of State Health Services.
B.S. in Kinesiology
This is the broadest and most flexible degree program in our department. You can design a plan to meet your specific career goals or prepare for graduate or professional school.
Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Coaching, Sport, Recreation and Fitness Administration
This academic and professional development degree is designed to meet your individual interests within the wide-ranging fields of athletics, recreation, fitness and facility/event management. It is also excellent preparation for advancement to a Ph.D. program.

Take advantage of our state-of-the-art Ben Kelly Center for Human Performance. It houses an extensive weight room, fitness machines, rock-climbing wall, gymnasium, indoor track, racquetball courts, indoor pool and locker rooms.
Get the hands-on experience you need in our modern labs equipped with medical-grade equipment, like an EKG machine, metabolic cart, ergometers, biological impedance instrument and hologic DEXA X-ray machine.
We will help you set up internships and shadowing opportunities with allied health professionals at various fitness, wellness and recreation organizations. You can also join our department’s student organizations to learn leadership skills, take part in social and community activities, and network with students and professionals.
