Whether you are interested in becoming a registered nurse or expanding your nursing career, we offer excellent academic programs to help you reach your professional goals.
Pre-nursing students are students who are enrolled at Angelo State, but have not been accepted into the B.S.N. program.
Pre-nursing students are assigned an academic advisor through the Center for Academic Excellence. You can find and contact your pre-nursing advisor. Upon initial acceptance into the nursing program, you should contact the Department of Nursing to set up an advising appointment.
Your prerequisite courses, also known as Major Support Courses, must be completed before you apply to the B.S.N. program. These courses determine your academic readiness.
All pre-nursing, B.S.N. and graduate nursing students are invited and encouraged to join the ASU Student Nurses Association (SNA).
Health Science Society
All health science students are invited and encouraged to join the Health Science Society, which assists students with graduate school, promotes research in the field of health science, conducts diverse activities, and improves opportunities for future jobs in health science.
If you are not a pre-nursing student, but are interested in the nursing program, we’d love to hear from you! Choose the statement below that best describes you.
Congratulations on planning ahead! To become a registered nurse, you must first complete a program of study that qualifies you to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). We offer a generic baccalaureate program (at least four years of college work). When you graduate, you’ll take a licensing exam.
Our Nursing Department offers a generic B.S.N. degree as the first step toward becoming a registered nurse (RN). Upon graduation, you will take the state licensing exam to become an RN.
Until you have been accepted into the B.S.N. program, you will be classified as a pre-nursing student and take only prerequisite courses. In your last semester of prerequisites, you will apply to start the sequence of nursing courses the next semester. Applications to the B.S.N. program are accepted for the fall and spring semesters.
Be sure to look into the university Honors Program, which will enrich your educational experience and provide additional benefits to help you achieve your career goals.
We welcome transfer students! ASU requires 30 semester credit hours to be taken in residence to receive a bachelor’s degree from ASU.
Because you have a bachelor’s degree, you may have already taken many of the academic course requirements for the B.S.N. program. However, you will still need to complete a program of study that qualifies you to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for registered nurses. We encourage you to speak with an advisor to determine what prerequisites and application requirements you will need to complete in order to apply for our program.
Until you are accepted into the B.S.N. program, you are considered a pre-nursing student. All pre-nursing majors should be advised through the Center for Academic Excellence.
Even though you are currently an ASU student, you still need to submit an application to the B.S.N. program. Make sure you know the deadline to submit your application!
