Applied Psychology Graduate Assistantships
The Department of Psychology provides financial support to graduate students by offering assistantships— graduate assistants (GAs), research assistants (RAs), and teaching assistants (TAs).
New and current students can apply for the GA and RA positions by submitting an application to the department office.
TA positions are available only to students who have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours prior to the appointment. TA candidates submit the same application as GA and RA applicants to the department office.
Graduate Assistants and Research Assistants
Duties: Graduate assistants have responsibility for a wide range of duties designed to support the undergraduate instructional program. Each works under the supervision of a faculty member who directs their work assignments. Please note that these positions require students to be on campus.
Research assistants are assigned to work on research projects determined by the faculty project directors.
Salary: $7,490 for two semesters ($13.50 per hour for 17.5 hours per week)
Both GA and RA positions are considered half-time employment and enable students to make normal progress toward their degrees.
Selection:The selection of GAs and RAs is typically done during the summer prior to the upcoming academic year in which the appointments begin. The GAs and RAs are selected by graduate advisors, psychology faculty members who provide the training and supervision of those who are appointed.

Teaching Assistants
Duties: Teaching assistants receive teacher training in the fall and spring semesters by assisting their directing faculty members. In this capacity, they lead instructional discussion sessions with undergraduates and practice lecturing.
Salary: $11,095 for two semesters
Selection: The selection of TAs is typically done during the spring semester prior to the upcoming academic year in which the appointments begin. TAs are selected by Drs. Nicole Lozano and Kyle van Ittersum, psychology faculty members who provide the training and supervision of those who are appointed.

Online Teaching Assistants
Duties: Online teaching assistants assist their directing faculty members in an online undergraduate class. They help design and build a course in Blackboard, create a syllabus, activities, discussions, and video lectures. TAs also assist with the daily maintenance of the course and grading. Online teaching assistants are only employed for one semester.
Salary: $5,547 for one semester
Selection: The selection of TAs is typically done each semester prior to the semester in which the appointments begin. TAs are selected by faculty members in the department. Applicants must have completed 18 graduate hours by the start of the position and have taken PSY 6347 Developmental Psychology and PSY 6361 Teaching of Psychology prior to being a TA. It is strongly recommended that students have taken PSY 6338 Educational Psychology.
Application Deadline: October 28th for spring; April 7th for fall.
