Department of Social Work and Sociology
Social work is a profession which assists clients in improving social, psychosocial, or biopsychosocial functioning. Sociology is a social science that focuses on the study of social behavior and society.
In our social work program, you will learn the skills and values needed to engage in competent and ethical social work practice. In our sociology program, you will gain real-world knowledge and skills that will prepare you for a wide variety of career fields.
Both social work and sociology careers offer you the opportunity to improve lives. Social Work Field Education
Gain valuable experience and develop your professional network before you graduate. Social work interns take on a case load and work with real clients.
Join our Student Social Work Association, the Phi Alpha social work honor society, our Student Sociological Association, and/or the Alpha Kappa Delta sociology honor society. They provide opportunities for professional development, networking, philanthropy and social events as you really get to know your fellow students and professors.
Our B.S.W. degree program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and our M.S.W. degree program holds CSWE Candidacy Status and is currently seeking full accreditation.
Participate in our annual summer study abroad program where you’ll travel across Europe. Visit partner universities in the Netherlands, meet with professionals in the Czech Republic, and work with the Ronald McDonald Foundation in Bucharest, Romania.
