Phi Alpha Honor Society (Social Work)
The purpose of the Phi Alpha honor society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.
Student Social Work Association (SSWA)
The Student Social Work Association’s (SSWA) purpose is to provide students with experience and knowledge in the field of social work through philanthropy. The SSWA also provides students the ability to voice their opinions concerning ASU’s social work program. SSWA is a great way to meet other students with similar interests and to get acquainted with the San Angelo community.
Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society (Sociology)
The Alpha Kappa Delta international honor society is dedicated to encouraging and stimulating scholarship in the study of social problems, sociology and intellectual activities that lead to improvement in the human condition. It also promotes the scientific study and advancement of sociology.
Alpha Mu of Texas is our local chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the international sociology honor society. The ASU faculty sponsor is Dr. Shirley Simpson
Please contact the student president for membership details. Student eligibility requirements include:
- Junior standing or higher
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Sociology GPA of 3.0 or higher
- At least 12 hours of sociology credit, whether students are majoring or minoring in sociology or have a substantive interest in the subject
