The Master’s Degree in Social Work (M.S.W.) at Angelo State University prepares students for advanced social work practice.
Our master’s degree program is built on an advanced generalist practice perspective, and is consistent with expected social work job growth in the next few years.
Our M.S.W. degree program is offered On-Campus and Online.

All tracks are designed to be completed between 1 and 2 years at full-time enrollment.
Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA
No GRE, reference letters, or professional narrative required.
In 2019, CSWE granted Angelo State University’s Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program Initial Candidacy status. Students enrolled in the M.S.W. program are eligible to sit for the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners’ licensing exam upon graduation. Full accreditation of the M.S.W. program is slated for June 2022.

Admissions Process
All prospective M.S.W. students must follow the admission requirements below in addition to the admission requirements based on their track selected.*Acceptance is determined by the amount of available space.
Graduate Admission
Application for graduate admission is a multi-step process.
Step 1: Applicants will complete a Graduate Studies application via the ApplyTexas portal (no essay required). Applications will be accepted up to 30 days before the start of the desired semester. International applicants should give themselves more lead time in the application process.
Step 2: Once your Apply Texas application has been processed by the College of Graduate Studies and Research you will receive an email to access the online M.S.W. application via InPlace Student Platform. Please read carefully and complete all sections of the online social work application.
Step 3: Within the M.S.W. application, please upload in PDF format, your unofficial transcript from the university or college that awarded your Bachelor’s Degree. If admitted, you will be required to submit official transcripts to the College of Graduate Studies and Research, with the exception of Angelo State University transcripts.
Please do not send official transcripts until you have received a notice of acceptance from Angelo State University.

Regular Admission Status
GPA of 2.75 and higher of undergraduate college coursework from a regionally accredited institution.
Current graduate student applicants who seek to transfer and are in good standing with their current academic institution will be accepted unconditionally.
Provisional Admission Status
GPA of 2.0 to 2.74 hours of college undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited institution.
Current graduate student applicants who seek to transfer and are in good standing with their current academic institution will be accepted.
*Provisional status students must make a 3.00 (on a 4 point scale) G.P.A. during their first semester and maintain a 3.00 G.P.A. once admitted into the MSW program.
Deadlines
The MSW program at Angelo State University admits student each fall. The MSW Program has priority application dates and will accept applications after this date.
Applications remaining incomplete after the final deadline date will be at risk of not being reviewed for admission.

M.S.W. Field Education
You will be responsible to research, locate and initiate your site/placement, but will be supported in this process by our M.S.W. Field Director.
All Advanced Standing students will be required to complete 500 hours of Field Education taking place over the spring and summer semesters during your one-year degree plan.
All Traditional Track students have a two-year degree plan; this includes summer semesters. Students will be required to complete 900 hours of Field Education. In the summer of the first year, Traditional Track students will complete 200 hours and 700 hours starting in their second year.
All Advanced Standing and Traditional Track students are required to attend the mandatory Field Education Orientation training, either in person or online. Contact the field director more information.
No students will be allowed to graduate from the program if the Field Education hours are not completed satisfactorily.

Students who have been accepted into Field Education must provide evidence of professional liability insurance to the Field Education Director, at the 1 million/3 million level, coverage prior to beginning their field education experience.
Field Education students who do not purchase malpractice insurance will not be allowed to meet with any clients or complete their field education.

The Social Work Department began using InPlace in Fall 2021, InPlace is an internship management platform. Students will use InPlace for applications, time sheets, weekly supervision logs and evaluations. We have provided access to the required applications and forms, so students can view outside of the InPlace Student Platform.

Through agency experiences and supervision, students have the opportunity to learn and become socialized into the profession.
As a new field placement, you will need the following: an affiliate agreement between the agency and university. Field Instructors should have an M.S.W. degree from a CSWE-accredited program and 2 years post-graduation experience in social work to supervise the students; field instructor should be with the agency for a minimum of 6 months; space for the students as well as any applicable equipment; and ensure that the supervisor can meet with the students for 1 hour every week during their placement.
