English BA Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the BA in English, graduates will be able to demonstrate

Goal 1: how to interpret and analyze literary texts by applying literary concepts and terminology in interpretation and analysis of a literary text, and by responding to current scholarship in literary studies.

Goal 2: how to produce rhetorically, stylistically, grammatically, mechanically, and conventionally effective writing by choosing audience-appropriate organizations and styles, and by following common standards of written English organizations and styles, as well as common standards of written English.

Goal 3: how the course of study in English provided the fundamental content knowledge necessary for an English major by describing their knowledge of the interrelationship among authors, texts, genres, literary movements, and common themes in British, American, and World literatures, and by demonstrating this knowledge through analysis of examples provided.
