BSW Field Education Information for Students

A key component of Angelo State University’s Bachelors of Social Work program is the field education experience.

The purpose of field education in social work education is to provide opportunities for students to apply social work knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective processes learned in the classroom to real-life situations with clients “in the field”. BSW students are able to observe the benefits and challenges of working within various organizational settings with diverse client populations. Students are supervised by a professional social worker or related degree individual in the field agency (the Field Instructor) and by field faculty (Field Education Liaison and Field Education Director) at the University.

Our Field Education Handbook defines the nature and intent of social work field education so field students can understand the rules and guidelines of the Field Education Program. The Field Education Roles and Responsibilities outlines the roles of the student, agency and field coordinator; and our Field Education Agency List  lists agencies that have partnered with Angelo State University.
