Course Standards Rubric
Via the guidance of the Distance Education Council, which comprises faculty, administration, and instructional designers, Angelo State has adopted the Online Learning Consortium’s (OLC) Online Course Quality Review Rubric as its course standards rubric. While there are many rubrics to choose from, using just one as an institution will allow us to be strategic as we strive for excellence in online course design. The rubric can be used in a variety of ways:
- Consultation and evaluation with an instructional designer: Your instructional designers are eager to combine your subject matter expertise with knowledge of best practices for online teaching. The rubric allows us to share a common language as we partner together.
- Self-evaluation: Faculty working autonomously on continuous improvement can benefit from identifying areas for growth. The rubric can also be used formatively in course design when partnered with course mapping.
- Peer-evaluation at the departmental level: Applying the OLC Rubric for collaborative course assessment enables departments to cultivate a culture of ongoing enhancement, ensuring courses remain up-to-date and undergo regular review.
