What's New?
New Cheap Thoughts added and integrated into the main database.
A collection of sublimely wise, partially wise, moderately wise, dangerously unwise, ridiculously insane, and hopelessly stupid quotations, painstakingly selected from the assembled wisdom (such as it is) of humanity
I might repeat to myself, slowly and soothingly, a list of quotations beautiful from minds profound; if I can remember any of the damn things.
Dorothy Parker, “The Little Hours” (1944)
A collection of quotations about science. Many other science-related topics are scattered throughout the other Cheap Thoughts sections.
The future of humanity is uncertain, even in the most prosperous countries, and the quality of life deteriorates; and yet I believe that what is being discovered about the infinitely large and the infinitely small is sufficient to absolve this end of the century and millennium. What a very few are acquiring in knowledge of the physical world will perhaps cause this period not to be judged as a pure return to barbarism.
Primo
Levi, Other People's Trades (1989)
"News from the Sky"
A collection of jokes, puns, riddles, parodies, limericks and other attempts at poetry (what could be verse?), one-liners, silly definitions, science jokes, and other dangerously insane forms of humor and near-humor
Hanging is too good for a man who makes puns; he should be drawn and quoted.
Fred Allen
