The purpose of ASU Camp UREC is to provide a sports and development experience for boys and girls ages 5–12 years old - and to develop a wide variety of fundamental physical activity skills that are inherent to a healthy lifestyle and a lifetime of physical fitness.
Camp UREC is lead by specially trained ASU students. These camp counselors are passionate about sports and youth development. After rigorous training and background checks, the camp counselors develop a specific progression of lesson plans throughout the summer. The curriculum they facilitate focuses on exposure to the university, developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and sport-specific development.
Camp programs for children ages 5–8 will be based on developing fundamental gross and fine motor skills that set the stage for success in sports performance later in life. Lead-up games in traditional and non-traditional physical activities will be the primary focus.
Campers aged 9–12 will experience developmental instruction in softball, volleyball, badminton, flag football, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, swimming and cooperative games. The emphasis is for campers to develop competent to proficient skills in these activities.
