The Library Provides Christmas Wishes for Annual Christmas Donation Project

January 13, 2016

The Library helped two local organizations with Christmas wishes this year through the generosity of staff and the help of the ASU Community.

Staff of the Porter Henderson Library chose the Children’s Advocacy Center of Tom Green County (CASA) as the recipient of the Library’s Annual Holiday Donation Project. Rather than exchanging gifts among staff, a local organization is chosen each year (by vote) to receive a donation from the Library as a whole. Funds are collected and donated or used to provide a specific need. Thanks to the contributions of Library staff, 47 tote bags were purchased for children receiving services through CASA. Many of the children helped by CASA have very little to call their own and often need something for carrying personal belongings. The Library is very proud to have provided brand new ASU tote bags as well as a monetary donation of $200.00 to this very deserving organization and the children they serve. The Library thanks the ASU Bookstore for their help in procuring as many bags as possible. This year’s project was coordinated by Erin Johnson (Library Business Manager and Community Engagement Coordinator), Autumn Barnes (Library Assistant - Media), Leann Hubert (Director of Marketing Services, CASA), and Shannon Walding (Community Outreach Coordinator, CASA).

The Library also organized an effort to provide gifts to San Angelo’s local senior citizens through the “Seniors Still Believe” campaign, hosted annually by Meals for the Elderly.  Forty seven ornaments with wish list items were placed on the Library book tree. The Library happily found that every gift request was met within the first week. The invaluable contribution of the ASU Community made this event possible, and for that the Library is grateful. The Library also thanks Autumn Barnes (Library Media Assistant), for organizing this and every Christmas Drive with San Angelo’s Meals for the Elderly program.
