Athletics’ International Flair

Foreign student-athletes contribute to success and diversity

Angelo State athletics has enjoyed a great deal of recent success, with 11 of its 13 teams advancing to the postseason in each of the last two academic years. A significant portion of this success can be attributed to a group of student-athletes who came to ASU from foreign lands and have played key roles in their teams’ achievements.

Hailing from nine different countries spread over five continents, these remarkable individuals have not only brought their own style of play to the courts and fields of ASU, they have also brought their cultures and customs into the melting pot that is Angelo State’s diverse campus community. There is no doubt that most of these young men and women faced the greatest of challenges when making the move to San Angelo, Texas, where they are thousands of miles away from their families and immersed in a different culture. Many of them have also arrived at ASU without ever having visited the campus or experienced their prospective future surroundings. They are most welcome additions to ASU athletics and the Ram Family.
