Martha Cox

Outstanding Staff
San Angelo native Martha (Perez) Cox secured more than her true love on her wedding day.

Not only did she marry her husband of 32 years, Roy Cox, she also made the connection that would bring her to work at Angelo State.

“Our best man’s sister is Karen Isaacs, who was then head of ASU’s Student Accounts Office,” she said. “She later hired me as head cashier.”

Several promotions followed, and Cox has been ASU’s manager of student accounts/bursar since 2002. She oversees the collection of tuition and fees from students, departmental deposits and various loan programs, among other duties. But her favorite part is working with students.

“At ASU, every day is different,” Cox said.

“I love the energy and the students. I’ve created some lasting bonds with students, and I feel very fortunate to have played a small part in them achieving their degrees.”

“I also have a great staff,” she added. “They make me look good. They understand customer service and they are great with our students.”

Cox has also served on the Staff Senate, won a 2003 Staff Excellence Award and long supported ASU athletics. She helped coordinate hospitality at several regional and national tournaments hosted by ASU, and she has a special passion for the Rambelles softball team.

“I’m a softball fanatic,” Cox said. “I still keep in touch with former players. That’s special to me.”

In recognition of her stellar service to the university, Cox has been named the 2016 Outstanding Staff Member by the ASU Alumni Association.

“Angelo State University has been a great place to work the past 27 years,” Cox said, “and I am proud to say that ASU is my home away from home. I do bleed blue and gold!”
