Mark Multer

Outstanding Staff Award
It may sound cliché, but Mark Multer is all about “service with a smile.”

Mark Multer, Class of 1978 (B.S.) Mark Multer, Class of 1978 (B.S.) A native of nearby Rowena and a 1978 ASU graduate, Multer is a 14-year member of the facilities maintenance staff. He performs carpentry and other maintenance on all the campus buildings east of Johnson Street and all the off-campus buildings, including the Lake House, Herrington House, President’s House and MIR Center (ASU Ranch).

While he may not actually whistle while he works, Multer is known across campus for his efficiency and positive attitude.

“You just take everything in stride and do the best you can,” Multer said. “I do a lot of stuff in the Vincent Building and I really enjoy the faculty and staff over there. My other buildings also have great staff, especially the office coordinators. I give them a lot of credit. They are easy to work with.”

Also known for going the extra mile, Multer has even been seen picking up trash along the county road leading up to the ASU Ranch.

“I have to take care of it and make it look good,” Multer said. “I’ll pick up trash around my buildings on campus, too. That’s not something that we have to do, but you want your buildings to look good. So to me, it’s part of the job.”

But it’s not all about the job. Multer has also served on the Staff Senate, regularly tailgates at ASU Rams Jams, and is a big fan of Rams football and baseball.

For his hard work, positive attitude and dedication to the entire campus community, the ASU Alumni Association has named Multer the 2018 Outstanding Staff Member.

“The faculty and staff at ASU have always been good to me,” Multer said. “That makes you want to go the extra mile. They treat me as a friend, not just some laborer. The Ram Family part of it really is a big thing.”

Multer and his wife, Lou Ann, celebrate their 40th anniversary this fall. They have three adult kids and five grandchildren. Four of Multer’s five siblings also graduated from ASU.
