Garrison on Theorizing Lip Reading

Is Lip Reading “Reading”?
Dr. Kevin Garrison, associate professor of English, has a new publication on lip reading in Volume 6 Issue 4 of Communication Design Quarterly.
In this peer-reviewed article, “Theorizing Lip Reading as Interface Design: The Gadfly of the Gaps,” Garrison challenges some assumptions about how people like himself read lips and how the word “read” is a problematic metaphor.
Communication Design Quarterly is a publication of SIGDOC, the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group (SIG) on the Design of Communication (DOC).
