Reworking the sitemap is a matter of looking at our website from 30,000 feet, and there’s a lot to see. iFactory has tasked us with reworking the way we group information together. A good principle is to organize content by how the user will interact with it, not based on who or what office produces it. Thinking of how information is “bucketed” together has helped.
We’ve also been reminding ourselves frequently that the sitemap is NOT the navigation. For example, even though information regarding job postings and new employees goes in a bucket titled “Employment,” we’ll still have a link to it on the homepage. Of course we want to attract all sorts of new and amazing talent to our school!
