A Chicago native, Wisniewski headed south to play basketball for the Rams. As a senior in 1984, he earned All-Lone Star Conference honors as the Rams won the LSC Tournament. He graduated with his accounting degree later that year, and he credits both ASU academics and athletics for setting him on the right track.
“I believe college lays the foundation that prepares you for success, but it does not guarantee success,” Wisniewski said. “I was also fortunate that through athletics, I was able to meet numerous people in the community who presented me with opportunities to succeed.”
And succeed he has. After working several years at a local CPA firm, Wisniewski joined Western Shamrock Corp. as an auditor in 1990. Over nearly three decades, he has played a key role in the company’s dramatic expansion, and now holds the position of CEO. In 2016, he acquired Ener-Tel Security in San Angelo, where he is working his same expansion magic.
I believe college lays the foundation that prepares you for success…
Scott Wisniewski
A founding member of the National Installment Lenders Association, Wisniewski has also served on many state and local boards, including for the ASU Alumni Association and Ram Club. He is also known for his philanthropy, highlighted by his funding of the Wisniewski Family Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship to aid budding student entrepreneurs in ASU’s Norris-Vincent College of Business.
“I’ve had the opportunity to visit with current students and recent graduates, and many of them dream of starting their own businesses,” Wisniewski said. “I applaud them for their entrepreneurial spirit, but there is much more needed just than a ‘good idea’ to be successful in a business start-up. Knowing what to expect and what you are up against will give everyone a chance to succeed.”
For his exceptional career success and continuous support of ASU, the Alumni Association has named Wisniewski a 2019 Distinguished Alumnus.
“I am truly honored to be recognized by the Alumni Association,” he said. “ASU has many distinguished alumni, and to be selected out of such an accomplished group of individuals speaks for itself.”
