New Degree, New Horizons

Angelo State introduced a new Master of Science in experimental psychology for the fall 2018 semester, and the first cohort of three ASU alumni are on pace to graduate this spring.

The first students experimenting with the new degree program are Alyssa Flores of Helotes, Marisa Thompson of Mansfield and Lacey Voth of El Paso. All of them graduated with their ASU bachelor’s degrees in 2018. Co-directors of the program are Dr. Steven Brewer, assistant professor of psychology, and Dr. Crystal Kreitler, associate professor of psychology.

“The experimental psychology graduate program prepares students interested in pursuing admission into doctoral programs, careers in human and non-human laboratory settings, or careers that emphasize data analysis, to name a few,” Kreitler said. “The program has a strong research focus, and all students are paired with a faculty research mentor so they can be successful in completing their thesis or capstone project.”

“This first cohort of three is especially important,” she added, “as they are the program’s trailblazers, and wow, have they set the bar high. What’s even more fantastic is they are all Angelo State alumni.”
