After completing the second half of the spring 2020 semester virtually, ASU announced on May 1 that the campus would re-open for the fall semester. Throughout the summer, extensive COVID-19 safety equipment and protocols were implemented across the campus to ensure the safety of returning students, faculty and staff.

New video equipment was installed in classrooms to facilitate social distancing and hybrid classes, hundreds of hand sanitizer dispensers were mounted in campus buildings, classrooms were rearranged for social distancing, and plexiglass barriers were added in key locations. Daily wellness screenings, contact-tracing teams and other safety protocols were put in place, and COVID-19 safety and prevention signage was designed and displayed across campus.
