A Message from President Hawkins

April 06, 2021

Below is a message from Angelo State President Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr sent to the Angelo State campus on Tuesday, April 6.

Angelo State University acknowledges the rise in anti-Asian discrimination, and we stand in solidarity with our Asian, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. We reject harassment, xenophobia, racism, violence, and all behaviors that perpetuate intolerance and do not align with our Core Values.

We recognize the pain and implications these types of injustices have not only on the Asian communities, but on our humanity. Oppression and hateful acts (through words or actions) carry an emotional toll that extends beyond the recipients of the unwarranted hostility, and onto all of us who advocate for justice.

I ask that you stand with me as we offer uncompromising support to our Asian and AAPI students, staff, and faculty. I also urge everyone to be attentive to the struggles of those who may be experiencing heightened anxiety, fear, sadness, anguish, or isolation. Our Counseling Services personnel are prepared to assist students, and the Employee Assistance Program is available for staff and faculty.

Angelo State is a community rich in culture, backgrounds, and perspectives. I encourage all members of the Ram Family to continue our unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
