Kayla Hons

Distinguished Carr Scholar Alumna - Class of 2005 & 2007 (B.S. & M.B.A.)

Kayla Hons is living proof that if you work hard, good things happen.

Kayla Hons A Ballinger native, Hons’ hard work in high school earned her a Carr Academic Scholarship to attend ASU.

“Through the generosity of the Carr Family, obtaining a higher education became my primary focus,” she said. “The Carr Scholarship alleviated the financial concern that faced and faces so many college students. I am forever grateful.”

As a student at ASU, Hons’ hard work not only resulted in two degrees, but also election to the Student Senate, ribbons and titles with the Wool Judging Team, leadership positions in various student organizations, and a graduate assistantship at the Small Business Development Center.

“ASU fostered my belief in the importance of hard work, a team atmosphere and close relationships,” Hons said. “Through the care and involvement of the professors at ASU, I also received an education that laid the foundation for a successful career. Not only did they provide you knowledge, they provided room for growth as an adult.”

“ASU fostered my belief in the importance of hard work…”

Since leaving ASU, Hons has worked hard to fashion an outstanding career in banking that includes multiple promotions on the way to her current position as vice president of lending at Community National Bank & Trust of Texas in Mineral Wells. She also works hard giving back to her community through involvement in numerous nonprofit organizations and her church.

In recognition of her career success and excellence in representing the Carr Scholarship Program, the ASU Alumni Association has named Hons its 2020 Distinguished Carr Scholar Alumna.

“Honestly, I don’t feel worthy, but I’m honored,” she said. “I have always wanted to make my family, and all those who have supported me, proud. I suppose this honor gives me the nod that I might have at least done that.”

Several members of Hons’ proud (and large!) family are also part of the Ram Family. She met her husband, Brandon, when they were both ASU students, and they now have two daughters, Bailey and Avery. She also has sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins who have all proudly worn the ASU blue and gold.
