Homecoming Honoree: Cheryl DeCordova
Honorary Alumna - District Director, State Rep. Drew Darby’s Office
As district director for San Angelo’s State Rep. Drew Darby, supporting ASU is part of Cheryl DeCordova’s job, but her commitment to the Ram Family runs way deeper than just that.
A Big Lake native, DeCordova has worked alongside Darby since 2006. She has played a key role in assisting the constituents of District 72, as well as in many of the legislative efforts in support of ASU initiatives, including everything from joining the Texas Tech University System to adding prestigious academic degree programs.
“It was a dream job for me at 20 years old,” DeCordova said. “I worked all different hours and took classes around that. Wes Davis was a great person to work for, and he kind of helped me grow up. I also met so many wonderful people and I have friends for life because of it.”
Since leaving ASU to enter the workforce fulltime and start a family, DeCordova has stayed connected through participating in events like the Phil George Blue & Gold Dinner and Auction and attending athletic events. She also helps coordinate ASU Day at the Capitol in Austin and the annual West Texas Legislative Summit at ASU, and she is a committee member for ASU’s K. Michael Conaway Archive, Exhibit and Endowment.

“I’ve gone to school there, I’ve worked there, and ASU is just a big part of my life,” DeCordova said. “ASU is also my passion. I’ve worked on boards that provided scholarships for ASU students. I’ve also met incredible people throughout my lifetime, and many of them were through ASU. I feel like ASU is one of the greatest opportunities our area has to offer.”
In addition to ASU, DeCordova supports the San Angelo Symphony, Children’s Advocacy Center, her church and various other community efforts, and she earned a Heroes for Children Award from ESC Region 15.
For her longstanding connection and commitment to ASU and the community, the Alumni Association has named DeCordova its 2022 Honorary Alumna.
“It has really blown me away,” DeCordova said. “I’m humbled and honored that they believe I’m deserving of an award like this. I’m overwhelmed, but truly elated.”
DeCordova and her husband, Aubrey, a retired Tom Green County commissioner, have two grown children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
