Small Business Week
Celebrate the success of small business during small business week - April 30-May 6, 2023
May 02, 2023

For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
In Texas, we know that small business is BIG—and now with 3.1 million small businesses across our state, their impact has never been a more powerful force! As we kickoff this year’s Small Business Week, April 30-May 6, 2023, we are proud to celebrate these inspiring small business owners who truly embody the entrepreneurial spirit of this great state.
Not only are small businesses the backbone of our state’s economy, spurring continued economic expansion, but they also employ nearly half of all working Texans, supporting our state’s status as the nation’s #1 jobs creator.
Texas is also a top state for women-owned, minority-owned and veteran-owned businesses. We are proud to be home to 1.25 million women business owners, 1 in 5 of the nation’s Hispanic business owners, 1 in 10 of the nation’s Black business owners and nearly 1 in 10 of the nation’s Asian American business owners. Not to mention, we are the #1 state for jobs created by veteran women business owners.
During Small Business Week, and every week of the year, entrepreneurs deserve recognition for their courage and dedication in giving their all to achieve the Texas dream.
We want to share special recognition for this years San Angelo nominee for the San Antonio District U.S. Small Business Administration Award, Misty Mullin owner of Cowboy Up Chocolates.
Misty was nominated by the ASU SBDC to represent the San Angelo area for Women Business of the Year. This award honors a woman-owned and operated business. In a letter of support for her nomination, Representative Drew Darby wrote “ Misty is well deserving of being recognized with this award for women in the business because of her innovative ideas and marketing for the company. She has brought recognition of these great chocolate products to not only her community and surrounding area, but also throughout the great state of Texas”.
