Alumnus Jim Bennett Visits NVCOB

Bennett, class of 1984, visited Angelo State and met with students to discuss his career and give advice to future professionals.

Portrait of Jim Bennett Jim Bennett earned his Angelo State accounting degree in 1984 and spent about two years at Texas Commerce Bank before heading to Washington, D.C., in 1986. Since then, he has fashioned a very successful career that included 20 years with Bank of America. He now lives in Spain and holds the position of capital markets business lead with Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of enterprise open source solutions.

On Thursday, Oct. 26, Jim returned to Angelo State to tour the campus, meet with faculty and speak to students in a FINC 3361 Principles of Finance class. His wide-ranging discussion included details of his role at Red Hat, as well as advice to the future business and finance professionals. He encouraged the students to be lifelong learners, be willing to take risks and to build their networks through LinkedIn.

The students enjoyed his talk and asked a variety of questions, including whether he missed Texas barbecue (yes, he does!). Jim plans to stay in touch and help Angelo State students network globally.
