Official Announcement from the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra
May 13, 2024
After a season with guest conductors, the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Fagner M. Rocha as the new Music Director.
Over the past few years, Dr. Rocha served as concertmaster and played several solos with the Big Spring Symphony. On February 17th, he conducted the orchestra for the first time, in an energetic collaboration with Jody Nix and The Texas Cowboys. He is excited to lead the organization in the coming years with a vision that will shape the future of our educational and musical programs.
On his appointment Dr. Rocha says:
“I am honored to have been chosen as the music director of the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra. My history with the symphony goes back to 2008 when I was playing in the violin section. I always enjoyed great support and admiration from the late Dr. Keith Graumann and the community. I am excited to engage in many projects and lead the ensemble for many years to come.”
Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha is the new Music Director of the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as Associate Professor of Music at Angelo State University where he teaches violin, viola and directs the ASU Symphony Orchestra. Before his appointment at Angelo State, Dr. Rocha served as Assistant Professor of Violin at the Universidade Federal de Alagoas in Maceió, Brazil. He also performs as concertmaster for the San Angelo Symphony and Ballet San Angelo Orchestras.
Dr. Rocha’s new position was announced and celebrated at the Big Spring Symphony Guild’s annual fundraiser luncheon held on May 11th. The Big Spring Symphony Association and Guild want to thank everyone that attended and donated to this history making event. As always, our generous community stepped up with its time and resources.
