Psychology Professor Gives Invited Talk in London
July 15, 2024
Dr. Nicole Lozano of the Angelo State psychology faculty recently headed “across the pond” to England to give an invited presentation at the Centre for Culture and Evolution (CCE) at Brunel University London.
The topic of Lozano’s presentation to CCE researchers and faculty focused on community engaged research – partnering with community leaders and organizations to use research skills to help tackle whatever issues they may be facing, as well as to answer questions researchers have about their own processes.
An associate professor in the Department of Psychology, Lozano predominately teaches courses in counseling psychology areas, and she is also director of the Minor in Gender Studies program. An ASU faculty member since 2017, she has received grant funding for instructional innovation, STEM education in rural areas and a Faculty Research Enhancement Program.
“I’m a researcher who values working closely with my participants,” Lozano said. “It’s why I believe community engaged work to be so important. I know that our research questions will be better answered when we ask the people we’re studying what they want to know, too.”
Starting in 2013, Lozano has had multiple research articles published in various journals, including the Journal of Student Affairs and Research, Women’s Reproductive Health, Violence and Victims, and the Journal of Interpersonal Violence. One of her most recent articles, “Abortion Attitudes Across Cultural Contexts” published in International Perspectives in Psychology, was cited in the Psychology & Psychiatry Daily.
Lozano is a member of the American Psychological Association’s Committee on Women in Psychology and the Association of Women in Psychology, as well as the Executive Board of the Society of Counseling Psychology’s Section for the Advancement of Feminist Psychology. She holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
