ASU Ring Ceremony to Honor 72 Recipients

November 26, 2012

The Angelo State University Alumni Association will host 72 ASU ring recipients during its semiannual Ring Ceremony Thursday, Nov. 29, in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.

The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the LeGrand Center’s Norris Ballroom.  Special guest speaker will be Kyle Box, Class of 1981 and former president of the ASU Alumni Association’s Board of Directors.  ASU President Brian J. May will also speak and will present the rings to recipients.  Current ASU Alumni Association Board President Gilbert Gallegos will also participate in the ceremony.

The ASU Block and Bridal Club will be on hand with Dominic VII and Dominic VIII, the university’s current and future Rambouillet ram mascots.  After the ceremony, ring recipients can touch their rings to Dominic VII’s horns for strength, or they can rub them through his wool for luck.  After they walk the stage during ASU commencement ceremonies on Dec. 15, the graduates will turn their rings around from facing toward them to facing out as a symbolize that they are ready to face the world.

Ring recipients are asked to make reservations for friends and family members who will attend the ceremony.

The Alumni Association will also host a graduation party for graduates and their families on Friday, Dec. 14, at the LeGrand Center.  Following the Dec. 15 commencement ceremonies, graduates can go to the LeGrand Center to pick up their alumni coins and a free year’s membership in the Alumni Association.

For more information or to make reservations for the Ring Ceremony, call the ASU Alumni Association 325-942-2122.
