ASU President Assumes Leadership Role in Texas Higher Ed Council

The appointment came at the October meeting of CPUPC, which is comprised of the chief executive officers of Texas’ more than 50 publicly supported senior universities, colleges, health-related institutions and system offices.

Established more than 20 years ago, the council provides a forum for discussing the mutual needs, concerns and issues facing public universities in Texas and encourages inter-institutional cooperation in meeting the higher education goals of the state.

Rallo assumes the position of vice chair immediately and will serve a two-year term as the chair, beginning in October of 2011. The appointment is timely because of CPUPC’s role in providing advice and recommendations to the Texas Higher Education Board and, ultimately, to the Texas Legislature, which will convene in January for its next session.

Since 2007 when he became ASU’s president, Rallo has guided the university through its realignment with the Texas Tech University System and to its record 2010 enrollment.

The CPUPC position is Rallo’s second major appointment this year to a major advisory board in higher education. In February he was elected to a two-year term on the board of trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges.

As a SACS trustee, Rallo represents the 800 institutions that are members of the accrediting organization’s Commission on Colleges. SACS is the accrediting organization for universities in 11 states, including Texas. Angelo State is accredited by SACS.
