Planning a movie night? Find your film at the Library (Part I)

Have you ever wondered how to find what DVDs are available for check-out from the Library? The guideline below shows you how search for films in RamCat.

The Media Collection at the Porter Henderson Library includes over 2000 movies available for check-out to ASU students, faculty and staff. Check-out locations are in the Media Office in the Basement of the Library or at the Circulation Desk on the First Floor.

Using RamCat, the library’s online catalog, you can get a list of movies on DVD owned by the Library, and verify their availability for check-out. Your search may begin from either the Basic or the Advanced search screens. The best way to find movies in RamCat is to search using the term “feature films” since the term ‘movie’ is not used in the online catalog to identify either the genre or the format.

Guidelines for a Basic Search

From the Basic Search screen in RamCat:

  1. type the following (including the quotation marks as shown) in the search box:“feature films” AND DVD
  2. from the “Limit to” pull-down menu, select Video Recordings (DVDs, VHS)
  3. click the “Search” button.

Guidelines for an Advanced Search

From the Advanced search screen in RamCat:

  1. in the first search box, type DVD
  2. in the second search box, type feature films and select “as a phrase”in the pull-down menu to the right of the search box
  3. select Media from the “Location” pull-down menu
  4. click the “Search” button
