Distinguished ROTC Alumna

Lt. Col. Caeli Hull Black’s Air Force career has taken her all over the world and then in a full circle back to San Angelo, where it all began.

A native of Irving, Black earned her bachelor’s degree in German and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force through Angelo State’s ROTC program in 1997.

“I have lots of fun memories from ASU and the ROTC Detachment 847,” she said. “I loved football season, throwing tortillas, doing push-ups in the end zone after touchdowns and, of course, working on and especially guarding the wood pile for the annual Homecoming bonfire.”

After graduating from ASU, Black received her intelligence training at nearby Goodfellow Air Force Base in 1998. She then served in the intelligence operations of the Air Force’s Air Combat Command, Air Education and Training Command, Joint Forces Command and Central Command, including a year as chief of the Iraq Threat Finance Cell at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Her most recent assignment was as commander of the 315th Training Squadron at Goodfellow, just three miles from her alma mater and back in the same squadron where she trained as a young lieutenant.

Black’s service honors include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

For her eminent military service, the ASU Alumni Association has named Black its 2014 Distinguished ROTC Alumna.

Black also holds a Master of Arts in organizational management from Ashford University in Iowa. She recently married Nathaniel Black, a deputy marshal with the Clark County Court System, and moved to Las Vegas.
