Brazil Cultural Experience

Spend 18 days in South Brazil’s state of Rio Grande do Sul and explore the culture, music and history of the region. The schedule will include classes in:

  • Brazilian and Latin American history
  • Brazilian music
  • Basic Portuguese
  • Brazilian percussion
  • History of the orchestra
  • Music literature
  • Concert performances

The program will be based in Caxias do Sul and hosted by the Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS), where you will have classes and share experiences with students and faculty from UCS. You will also visit the cities of Vacaria, Gramado, Canela, Bento Goncalves and Porto Alegre.

You will also have classes and field trips to learn about the Gaucho culture and tradition in South America, as well as the history of Italian and German immigration in South Brazil. This will include visits to:

  • Gaucho Tradition Centers
  • Museums
  • Churches
  • Landmarks

The trip will tentatively include a soccer game of Sport Club Juventude in the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium in Caxias do Sul.
