Beyond Angelo Winter Break
The purpose of this trip is to provide a meaningful and incredible volunteer experience through Habitat for Humanity Taos (HFHT) in Taos, New Mexico to ASU students by working on local homes in need of volunteer assistance. They will have an opportunity to reflect and share their experience each project day with their peers.
Bringing ASU students to Taos, NM will be a significant and eye opening opportunity. The project is to assist HFHT in building an adobe home. They will be building on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday will be a eye opening culture day. Activities available are; going to a multi-storied adobe building that has been inhabited for more than 1,000 years called the Taos Pueblo, world class museums, the historic Taos Plaza, the historic San Francisco de Asis Church in Ranchos de Taos and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge that spans 650 feet above the river.
Habitat for Humanity of Taos fills an important need in the Taos community, where 90% of the population cannot afford to purchase a home. Taos’ average home price is over $300,000, but the median Household income is under $32,000.
