Hip Hop Poetry Coming to ASU Club Café

Spoken word poet Bridget Gray will perform her unique brand of hip hop style poetry during the next installment of Angelo State University’s Club Café coffee house entertainment series Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Houston Harte University Center.

Gray will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28, in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center. Admission price will be $1 at the door and all those who attend will receive a free Club Café mug. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Gray began presenting her work at poetry slams in Southern California clubs in 1999 and went on to compete in several national poetry contests. She has been a featured poet on ABC’s “Eye on LA,” BET’s “Lyric Café” and HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam” and spent time as a marketing spokesperson for a Nissan national ad campaign. She has also been the opening act for top pop artists Black Eyed Peas, Joss Stone and Eryakah Badu.

Acting is also one of Gray’s passions and she made a cameo appearance in “Austin Powers 2.” She has also had guest star appearances in CBS’s “The District,” UPN’s “The Hughley’s” and the video for “Music” by Madonna.

Gray has also released two CD’s, “Shades of Gray” in 2001 and “Self Love” in 2005. Samples of her poetry can be seen on her web site and at
