AFROTC to Hold Vigil in Remembrance of 9-11
Angelo State University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will hold a public vigil 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the ASU Intramural Fields as a memorial to those people who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.
At 8 a.m. the AFROTC Ram Guard will present a new flag at the flagpole. At 10 a.m. a display of 3,000 Christmas lights will be illuminated, representing the 3,000 lives lost in the attack. The lights will form a 175-yard path in the shape of a horseshoe across the field. Photographs will be placed every five yards. In the middle of the lit horseshoe will be a wall listing the names of victims from the Sept. 11 attack.
Along the arc of the horseshoe, a police car, an ambulance and a fire truck with their lights flashing will stand as a silent homage to the emergency service personnel who responded to the attacks. The date "9/11"y will be lit on University Hall.
