Regular circulating materials (not Media Collection items) borrowed from the Porter Henderson Library have the following loan periods:
Undergraduate Students — 21 day loan period, 3 renewals, no limit on number of items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
Graduate Students — 42 day loan period, 1 renewal, no limit on number of items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
ASU Faculty — semester loan period, 5 renewals, no limit on number of items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
ASU Staff — 42 day loan period, 1 renewal, no limit on number of items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
Family Members of ASU Faculty/Staff — 21 day loan period, 1 renewal, limited to 10 items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
ASU Faculty/Staff Retirees and Their Spouses — 21 day loan period, 1 renewal, limited to 10 items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
Up & Coming Scholars – 21 day loan period, 2 renewals, limited to 10 items; maximum of 1 overdue item before blocking.
ASU Support Groups (Friends of the Library; and President’s Circle and Alumni Association members whose level of membership includes Library borrowing privileges) — 21 day loan period, 1 renewal, limited to 10 items; maximum of 5 overdue items before blocking.
Fee Paying Patrons – 21 day loan period, 1 renewal, limited to 2 items; maximum of 1 overdue item before blocking.
TexShare Borrowing Card Participants – 21-day loan period, 2 renewals, limited to 2 items; maximum of 1 overdue item before blocking.
Juvenile books circulate for a 21-day loan period to all borrowers except ASU faculty, who receive a 120-day loan period, subject to recall after the initial 21 days.
Regular Media Collection items borrowed from the Porter Henderson Library have the following loan periods:
Undergraduate and Graduate Students — Three days (due before closing three days later).
ASU Faculty — one week.
TexShare and TexPrep — Two hours and in-house use only.
All other authorized users — Three days (due before closing three days later).
Course Reserve materials circulate for one of the following loan periods, as designated by the requesting faculty member:
Closed Reserve — must be used in-house, must be returned within 2 hours, and cannot be renewed.
One Day Reserve — can be checked out whenever the Circulation Desk is open, and must be returned any time prior to closing the next day. (A one day reserve may be placed on library media items at the discretion of the Media Librarian)
Three Day Reserve — can be checked out whenever the Circulation Desk is open, and must be returned any time prior to closing three days later.
To facilitate maximum access to these materials for all students, no renewals are permitted for the items placed on Course Reserve, and students are asked to limit themselves to only 2 Reserve items at a time.
►►►Faculty are encouraged to submit items to be placed on Course Reserve to the Circulation Department at least 1 working week prior to the date they will be needed for use. Course Reserve items will be processed in the order received, and during certain periods demand for this service is heavy. ◄◄◄
A properly completed Course Reserve Request Form must accompany each item that is to be placed on Reserve in the Library. Copies of the form may be obtained from the Circulation Desk or may be downloaded from the following URL:
|Overdue Fine Structure – Fines are assessed on each overdue item at the following rate:|
Regular loans (stacks)….25¢ per day
Juvenile loans (21 days)…25¢ per day
Closed Reserve (2-hour loans)…10¢ per minute
1-Day Reserve…$2.00 per day
3-Day Reserve…50¢ per day
Media loans (3 days)…$1.00 per day
Media Closed Reserve (2-hour loans)…10¢ per minute
Media 1-Day Reserve…$2.00 per day
Interlibrary loan…$1.00 per day (no maximum)
Fines for recalled items, a service available only for regular loans (stacks), are 30¢ per day (twice the regular rate), charged from the recall due date.
Damage and Replacement Fees — If a lost or unrepairable library item is still in print, the Library will charge the user a replacement fee equivalent to the price as listed in the most current edition of Books in Print or other appropriate format publication lists. If the item is no longer in print, the Library will assess the user a replacement fee equivalent to the average cost of the appropriate library materials format in the relevant subject area. In both cases, the user also incurs a non-refundable $10.00 processing and service fee, as well as any applicable overdue fines. If the user pays for a replacement item but then finds the item within six months of the item’s original due date, only the replacement fee is refundable. Faculty and staff users will be assessed the appropriate replacement fee for each item not returned within two years of the due date.
If the user damages library materials and the item(s) can be repaired, the Library assesses the user a damage fee of $30.00. This money will be used to rebind the material or otherwise implement such repairs as are possible, and is intended as a deterrent to careless and/or malicious treatment of Library materials. The fee amount is subject to change at the discretion of the Library Director. Materials returned in such damaged condition that replacement is required will be subject to the same charges as lost or unreturned items. For materials from the “Paperback Book Collection,” (designated in RamCat only as “PBK”) non-returned or lost items will be assessed a flat loss fee of $10.00. The loss fee may be increased or decreased at the discretion of the Library Director. Any applicable overdue fines will be charged to the user.
No processing and service fees as well as no sales tax will be assessed in this situation. If the user pays the loss fee but then finds the item within six months of the item’s original due date, the loss fee is refundable. Materials from the PBK collection returned in irreparable condition due to careless or malicious treatment will be subject to the same charges as lost or unreturned items from the collection, as described in the preceding paragraph. If the damage is deemed to have resulted from the accumulated wear and tear of normal but heavy use, the most recent patron is not to be held accountable for replacement. Decisions to determine the appropriate ‘repair and/or replacement fees for lost and damaged library materials will have to be researched by Library staff members. In most cases, information will be available within two hours during weekday business hours (i.e., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Items brought in after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays or any time on weekends will not have a decision until the following business day.
A Word of Caution: You are responsible for all items checked out on your card. ASU Faculty/Staff and Retirees are also responsible for all items checked out to their dependents. Changes in family status should be reported to the Circulation Desk so that the database files can be kept current. Please treat your ASU ID card, or your yellow library card, as you would a credit card. If your card is lost or stolen, please report it immediately to the Circulation Desk so that your old card can be voided and you can be issued a new card.
