Implementing Technology Related Projects

To implement a technology-related project at Angelo State University, we will follow standardized Project Management methodology practices developed by the ASU Project Office which are based upon Project Management Institute (PMI) standards, the State of Texas Project Delivery Framework, and the Texas Tech University System Project Management Guidelines.

Research shows that over 50% of Technology related projects fail to come in on-time, within budget, and scope. One of our goals in the Project Office is to help all technology-related projects to be successful by coming in on time, within budget, and scope. We really emphasize planning as a critical aspect of every project. The planning of a project should take approximately 33 % of the time required to complete a project. For every 1 hour spent planning, you will save 10 hours in implementation and 100 hours after you are live in a production environment. The same can be said for every 1 hour spent planning, you will save $10 in implementation and $100 after you are live in a production environment. Therefore, the Project Management Office at ASU relies heavily on structured and proven processes to properly plan all technology-related projects through each phase of the project Lifecycle.
