Campus Vehicle Burglars in Custody 11/09/07

HandcuffsOn 11/9/2007, University Police arrested two individuals in reference to the rash of car burglaries this week. The arrests were made subsequent to police obtaining a search /arrest warrant. In addition to the arrests, campus police recovered a cache of stolen property including property stolen from burglaries on campus.

The campus community is again reminded to always lock you car and keep valuables out of sight. If you see anything suspicious, please immediately contact University Police.

UPDATE - 11/13/07 - On 11/9/2007, University Police arrested two suspects involved in a rash of car burglaries.

In spite of the arrests Friday, the car burglaries appear to be continuing. There have been approximately 14 car burglaries since November 1. The arrests on Friday cleared approximately 8 burglaries. Police are actively working the burglaries that occurred Sunday night at the Harvard House and two reported at the Massie Halls.

The campus community should consider the continued car burglaries as a direct threat to the campus. Everyone is urged to make sure they lock their car doors, remove any valuables from sight and immediately report any suspicious activity to campus police.

Property crimes usually see an increase during the holiday season. Extra precautions should be taken whether you are on or off campus.
