What is Alternative Text?

When using images, you must provide meaningful and descriptive information known as alternative text. Those who use screen readers can have images described to them through alternative text. If an image is used for decorative purposes (i.e. logos), do not add alternative text.

Example

Cheerleader smiling at crowd

What to Avoid: “Cheerleader”, “Image of cheerleader”
Best Practice: “Angelo State University cheerleader smiling and holding up a yellow pom-pom”
